Glenelg

A picturesque village located on the west coast of Scotland, in the Highlands. It’s known for its stunning landscapes, including views of the Isle of Skye across the water. The village features charming stone buildings and a strong sense of community. Glenelg is also home to the historic Glenelg Brochs, ancient drystone structures that date back to the Iron Age. Enjoy a traditional highland pub just down the road at the Glenelg Inn. Make sure to book in for dinner to avoid any disappointment. The pub hosts quiz night every Thursday at 7 pm and music sessions are on 1st & 3rd Friday of the month for a great night of entertainment.

Dun Brewery

"pizza & Beer"

Discover Homemade pizzas and onsite tap room of craft beer by Dun brewery. Once a former cow shed and it’s been spruced up to make a cozy place to enjoy a few pints, Scott’s pies or a few slices of Neapolitan pizza (check there facebook for when pizza and pies are available!) Dun Inn also serve coffee, cakes and snacks.

Shore Station

Experience hand roasted coffee with a view while waiting for the ferry or just for a close spot from the cottages for lunch. The cafe has handmade cakes, pastries and sandwiches and an ever changing menu.

Brochs

"Ancient Stone Structures"

Discover the ruins of the picturesque Glenelg Brochs, ancient stone structures that provide a glimpse into the lives of early inhabitants. Don’t forget to visit the well-preserved Iron Age Brochs and Dun Telve and Dun Troddan. These historic sites offer an authentic window into Scotland’s past. If you’re keen on exploring the local culture, Glenelg is a place where traditions are still cherished.

Bernera Barracks

"the jacobite risings"

The barracks were built around 1717 – 1723, and still stand today as a ruin. Some of the stone used in the construction was taken from Dun Telve and Dun Troddan, the Brochs mentioned above. It was built for use of the military at the time of the Jacobite rising along with Fort William and 2 other places in the Highlands.

Monument

"war memorial"

Designed by Sir Robert Lorimer and sculptured by Louis Deuchars, this Bronze war memorial was unveiled in 1920 after the First World War to commemorate the men who gave their lives for this country. After 1945, the memorial was amended to include those who also fell in WW2.

Old herring path

"Medium walk, Duration: 3 / 4 hours, Ascent: 140m"

A slightly harder walk, which the path at times may be indistinct around the bay edges requires some navigation skills, but makes for a great scenic walk. Once you reach the broad bay at Camas na Caillin, you will get to see the fabulous views of Knoydart and looking back to Beinn Sgritheall. Make sure to keep a look out for otters along here as they can often be seen swimming just offshore.

Sandaig bay

Be sure to visit the renowned Sandaig Bay, once the home of the celebrated author Gavin Maxwell and the inspiration for his classic book “Ring of Bright Water.” You can follow in his footsteps and witness the stunning views that once captivated his heart.

Ardintoul Circut

"Medium walk, Duration: 4 / 5.5 hours, Ascent: 451m"

Known for being a part of the dirty thirty (A local race event that takes place once a year) makes up for 9 miles of the the 30. Here you can experience a snippet of what the route is like, the walk starts from Glenelg Ferry and takes you around a small section of the shores before going through the forestry track over the hill.

Eilean Donan Castle

"Tour around the inside"

One of the most photographed castles in the world sits close by, learn about the reconstruction and rich history of this 13th century castle through the daily tours put on here. Afternoons at the castle are perfect for those dreich days when the weathers not playing ball.

Highland Pony Trekking Centre

"Ride along"

The trekking centre is a small family business that’s been breeding highland ponies for over 100 years, they offer trail riding in Glensheil from trekking the shores of Loch Duich and venturing into the five sisters from May till September each year.

Glenelg Ferry

"Last of it's kind"

Experience a crossing like never before, this manually operated turntable ferry is the last of its kind in the world! MV Glenachulish (the ferry’s official name) was built in 1969 it has the capacity of 6 cars but a maximum of 12 passengers per sailing.
